Re: New School Year 2010/2011
The Technology department worked on several technology updates during this summer:
- Replacement of 500 old computers with new PC and MAC computers.
We are installing 20" iMac systems in several labs at GBS and GBN. We are installing HP desktops at GBN and GBS. We are installing notebooks and netbooks at GBN and GBS.
- Refresh and reimage of the software of all computers.
We are preparing for a broad roll-out of Windows 7 and OS X SnowLeopard during the upcomming school year. Certqain areas are configured to use these newest versions of the operating systems.
- Moving of the district office technology to its new location
Setting up the new location 3801 Passport Plaza as the new District Office. relocating all District office staff to new locations. Installing new network and phone systems for the new building.
- General network maintenance
clean up in the data closets: new cable management and labelling standard for better troubleshooting and support in case of network problems. GBN was started this summer. GBS had summer school and will follow next summer.
- Internet Bandwidth upgrades and Internet Filtering appliance upgrade
In recognition of the ever growing importance of the Internet as an integral component in the teaching and learning process we are preparing adequate bandwidth for the schools. This upgrade also reduced the bottom line costs for Internet services by 50%.
- wireless coverage outdoors at both GBN and GBS
Both GBN and GBS Football and baseball fields have now outdoor wireless access. The Glenbrook Guest network is accessible to all.
